If you have made the decision of learning Spanish online I want to say that I am so excited for you. It is a big challenge, and the best way to approach big challenges is to break them down into little steps so that you can celebrate every small progress that will take you where you want to be.
The first step is making the decision and by this I don’t mean just saying “I’m going to learn Spanish”, is actually believing that you can do it and being prepared to invest everything that will be necessary in order to achieve your goal.
Many of my students said that they wanted to learn Spanish and they started their journey on their own, using different apps, practicing with books, listening to CDs or podcasts. All of this was good, but not enough to be making real progress in a reasonable amount of time. At some point something shifted and they really made the decision when they realised that they needed guidance and decided to find a Spanish teacher.
You must already know that learning a new language is something that doesn’t happen from one day to another. The time it takes to learn a new language varies greatly depending on various factors such as the learner’s native language, their proficiency in other languages, the amount of time they dedicate to learning, the complexity of the language, and their learning style.
However, according to the Foreign Service Institute (FSI), which is the U.S. government’s primary training institution for employees of the U.S. foreign affairs community and other federal agencies, the average time to reach a professional working proficiency in a new language is approximately 600-750 hours of study for languages that are closely related to English (such as French, Spanish, and Italian) and around 2,200 hours for languages that are significantly different from English (such as Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean).
It’s important to note that these estimates are based on intensive language training and immersion programs, and individual learners may take more or less time depending on their specific circumstances and goals. Consistency, motivation, and effective learning strategies also play a significant role in language acquisition.
What I want to say is, this is going to take some time so you will have to learn to be patient with yourself, but also your teacher is going to be someone that you’re going to be seeing for quite a while if you really want to learn Spanish. You and your teacher are going to be in a professional relationship that sometimes can even become a friendship.
The bond between a teacher and a student is crucial for effective learning and overall success in the classroom. A strong bond fosters trust and comfort, allowing students to feel safe to express themselves, ask questions, and make mistakes without fear of judgment. This creates a positive learning environment where students can thrive.
When students feel connected to their teacher, they are more motivated and engaged in the learning process. They are more likely to participate actively in class, complete assignments, and take ownership of their learning. A strong bond enables teachers to understand each student’s unique learning style, strengths, and weaknesses. This allows them to tailor their teaching methods and materials to meet the individual needs of each student, leading to more effective learning outcomes.
Teachers who have a strong bond with their students can provide emotional support and guidance, helping students navigate challenges and develop resilience. In summary, the bond between a teacher and a student is a key factor in creating a positive and effective learning environment where students can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.
So if your teacher is going to be such a relevant part in this journey that you’re taking, how do you know if he/she is the right one for you? You will only find out when you meet them. This is why I offer a trial lesson for free, so that my students can meet me and make the decision of choosing me as their teacher based on a real experience.
This trial lesson is focused on meeting each other on a human level. I want to know what you’re like as a person, how your experiences have been, if you’ve had any, regarding learning a new language, what are your expectations and goals and how can I help you achieve them. You will be able to find out what I’m like as a person, I’ll take you through my work methods, you will have a look at all I have to offer you regarding content and materials and you will be able to ask any question you may have. It goes without saying, if after having all of this information you don’t feel that the way I work matches your expectations, there will be no hard feelings whatsoever. I don’t expect to meet everyone’s expectations as we are all different and that is not a bad thing.
I love the relationships I create with my students. At the end of the day I work alone, I don’t have any work colleagues so all my social work life comes from my relationship with them. They are my main motivation and their success is also mine.
I would love to be part of your success too. Book your trial-free lesson with me now and find out if I am the right match for you.
